Nutrition and Food Sciences
Mission
The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences promotes transformational learning through service, leadership and discovery. Students acquire knowledge and critical thinking skills in nutrition, dietetics, wellness, culinary science, flavor chemistry and food sciences through engaged learning and scholarly activity, culminating in a bachelor, master’s or doctoral degree.

We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees on the Denton and Houston campuses in nutritional sciences, food sciences, and dietetics, each designed to help you reach your professional goals. Looking to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)? TWU offers pathways where you can earn both your master’s degree and RDN eligibility in as little as 16 months.
Undergraduate Programs
BAS in Culinary Science and Food Service Management (with Culinology® certification)
Offered on TWU's Denton campus, this program builds on your associate of applied sciences in culinary arts and gives you the experience and knowledge needed for a career as a research or culinary chef.
BS in Food and Nutrition in Business and Industry
Offered on TWU's Denton campus (with some online courses), this undergraduate program focuses on the business side of food manufacturing, food product development and food quality management.
BS in Food Science
Offered on TWU's Denton campus (with some online courses), this undergraduate program provides knowledge and hands-on training in various aspects of food science and technology to prepare students for STEM careers across the food industry
BS in Nutrition, emphasis in Dietetics
Offered on TWU's Denton campus, this nutrition program provides the coursework required to apply to a master's program and a dietetic internship toward a career as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).
BS in Nutrition, emphasis in Nutritional Sciences
Offered on TWU's Denton campus (with some online courses), this nutrition program prepares you for a career researching or teaching nutritional sciences. This program is also the first step in several professional studies requiring advanced degrees, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and various medical fields.
BS in Nutrition, emphasis in Community Nutrition
Offered on TWU's Denton campus (with some online courses), this nutrition program combines nutrition and health studies to prepare you to earn certified health education specialist (CHES) credentials.

MS in Nutrition
TWU's MS in Nutrition is available on our Denton campus and Houston campus with thesis, coursework-only and 100% online options.
MS in Exercise and Sports Nutrition
Learn how to optimize nutrition for performance in sport. Thesis and coursework-only options available on both the Denton and Houston campus.
MS in Food Science and Flavor Chemistry
Available on TWU's Denton campus, our innovative food science and flavor chemistry program prepares you for a career as a flavor chemist.
PhD in Nutrition
Further your career in research or academia with TWU's PhD in Nutrition, available on both the Denton campus and Houston campus.
RDN Preparation Opportunities
Students interested in becoming Registered Dietitian Nutritionists may complete the MS in Nutrition or the Exercise and Sports Nutrition in conjunction with an ACEND-accredited RDN preparation program at TWU.
